Arquin gets Magpies off the mark
Notts County substitute Yoann Arquin grabbed a second-half equaliser then had an injury-time goal ruled out for offside as Walsall's run of three successive wins ended with a 1-1 draw at the Banks's Stadium.
Arquin wiped out the Saddlers' lead with a 73rd-minute header from a Alan Sheehan's cross, and when he nodded in Sheehan's free-kick in the second minute of added time County were furious when the assistant referee raised his flag.
Walsall began brightly and Ashley Hemmings could have given them the lead in the second minute but goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski did well to block his close-range shot.
Gradually County took a grip on the game and it needed a brilliant save by home keeper Richard O'Donnell to keep out a low drive from Joss Labadie following a short free-kick after six minutes.
Walsall took the lead five minutes into the second half when former West Brom striker Romaine Sawyers drove the ball home from 25 yards out for his first goal for the club and later Craig Westcarr missed a couple of chances to make the game safe against his former club, but the visitors finished the stronger side and deservedly equalised.
